Cable Boxes in
Yards
Some homeowners have asked what those
green boxes are for in their front yards, and if there is any possibility of
having them removed. In January, 2010, Joe, a representative from Verizon,
walked through Kelly Park and offered this information. After several years
of mergers, bankruptcies, takeovers, and even a couple jail terms, we have
arrived at the point in Thousand Oaks that all the television cables in the
ground belong to Time Warner and all the phone lines in the ground below to
Verizon. Other phone companies, such as AT&T, rent line "space" from Verizon.
In addition to these te;ephone and TV boxes, there are also boxes or lids in
the sidewalk for electric (Edison), gas and water. Gas and water boxes never
protrude above ground. Edison has some boxes above ground, but they are all
plainly marked with "High Voltage" signs.

1. The small green boxes like this one
contain old cables once used by a predecessor of Time Warner to direct
cable television signals to various homes. It appears that Time Warner
is not using them. We do not know yet if TW will remove them, if the
homeowners can remove them, or if TW plans to use them some time in the
future. Click Photos to Enlarge |

2. The larger green boxes
also contain television cable, which belongs to Time Warner. The cables
and connectors do not appear to be in use. Click
